Ben Tallentire returned from a visit to Singapore last week having spent time assessing the impact of the financial crisis in the Republic. ‘With so many foreign banks, Singapore has suffered a doubly whammy from US as well as European based operations, but they are coping relatively well. Retrenchments in most banks have taken place, some surprisingly quite minor, but more will undoubtedly follow as the crisis continues to unroll’. We have an increasingly strong presence there and plan to expand further into the Asian markets when normal trading conditions resume.
The Singapore Government’s support for the industry is obvious, as it pursues its objective of the Republic remaining a key financial hub in the World. ‘I would not be surprised if Singapore is one of the first banking markets to regain equilibrium. The opportunities ahead, once out of this crisis appear tremendous’. Tallentire stated.
Job opportunities are currently limited, but placements due to normal churn are on-going. ‘We have briefs for a hand full of vacancies – some with very specific skill sets. Its T+O+M’s associations in London, New York, Dublin and Hong Kong, that will support us in sourcing these specific needs candidates’ Ben added.
Our Australian candidates are always well sought after and recently placements have been made in India, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
Partner Richard O’Flynn stated the Australian Fiscal sector remains quiet for permanent placements and retrenchments, he hoped, appear to have peaked. However contract appointments remain steady. T+O+M remains one of the largest employers in the financial sector of those seeking to spend 6 – 12 months in Australia.
‘The four pillars of Australian Banking (NAB;CBA;Westpac:ANZ), we predict, will be some of the earliest in the World to regain their momentum and the future looks bright for this market. They are four of only thirteen in the World to have retained their AAA rating’. Richard O’Flynn stated.
